The Clock of Life

Layer Remix Theater

Here you will see my compositing projects based on the real shooting

A culturally constructed timeline that prescribes age-graded expectations for major life events (e.g., education, career, marriage). It operates as an invisible force legitimising societal surveillance over individual life trajectories.

Concept

"The Clock of Life" reflects the invisible pressure of the social clock— the relentless expectations that dictate our paths through life. Set against the backdrop of the buildings of the city and looming technological structures. This project symbolises a world where every individual moves within a scripted reality, much like the characters of "The Truman Show". Even when we get awareness of these constraints, escaping them seems impossible.

Approach

Through compositing techniques, combining distorted urban landscapes, such as the huge clock and train tracks, which are in Termini station, the tall buildings in the EUR district in Rome. I constructed a visual metaphor for societal entrapment. The black-white color tones, distorted scales, and solitary figures with the only color of red pants amplify the feeling of isolation and the weight of unseen forces driving human existence.

Sound Design

The soundscape for The Clock of Life was composed by me to intensify the sensation of systemic pressure and repetitive constraint. Utilizing a metronome-inspired rhythm, through tightly looped rhythmic patterns and minimalistic tonal textures, the track establishes a mechanical and relentless beat that mirrors the societal clockwork controlling individual lives, underscoring the emotional weight carried by those trapped within this invisible structure.
